Competition: Huddersfield Premier Cricket League – Championship
Result: Shelley CC won by 70 runs
Shelley CC 1st XI continued their strong summer form with a commanding 70-run victory away at Broad Oak, thanks to a composed batting display and a ruthless bowling performance led by Muhammad Shayan Shaikh.
Winning the toss and electing to bat, Shelley posted a competitive 243-8 from their 50 overs. The innings was anchored by Mohammad Khuzaifa, who struck a fluent 62 off 75 balls, mixing aggression with control. Kiran Green (44) and Reece Abrams (25) provided stability through the middle, while Martin Sykes (17 off 10) added late impetus. Despite regular breakthroughs from Broad Oak’s attack—Saqib Ali (3-43) and Jack Wadsworth (2-61) leading the way—Shelley’s depth and intent ensured a strong total.
In reply, Broad Oak’s chase faltered early under pressure from Shaikh, who tore through the top order with a devastating spell of 5-60 from 14 overs. Only Alex Walker (41 off 30) and Tom McCreadie (35) offered resistance, but wickets tumbled in clusters. Alex Kilner (2-26) and Josh Holling (1-38) supported well, while Martin Sykes sealed the win with the final wicket. Broad Oak were bowled out for 173 in 31.1 overs, handing Shelley a full six-point haul.
A clinical all-round performance keeps Shelley CC firmly in the hunt for a top- two finish, with momentum and belief building across the squad.
